In recent articles, editors of Arab dailies assessed that a war between Iran and the West is imminent, and did not rule out the possibility that the Arabs would take part in it. The editor of the Al-Quds Al-Arabi daily, ‘Abd Al-Bari ‘Atwan, wrote that the war would change the face of the region, and the fate of Israel’s occupation would be like that of the Nazi regime after World War II; the editor of the Egyptian daily Al-Gumhouriyya, Muhammad ‘Ali Ibrahim, stated that Iran has already made the first move towards war; and Al-Sharq Al-Awsat editor Tariq Alhomayed stated that whatever happens – whether Iran acquires nuclear weapons or a war breaks out to prevent it from acquiring them – the Arabs will become victims of the Iranian regime.

Following are excerpts from the editorials:

“O profane and wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, whose time of punishment has reached its climax, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Take off the turban, remove the crown. It will not be as it was: The lowly will be exalted and the exalted will be brought low. A ruin! A ruin! I will make it a ruin! It will not be restored until he comes to whom it rightfully belongs; to him I will give it. (Ezekiel 21:25-27)

The turban was worn by the High Priest, the crown by the King. The Lord had deliberately kept these two offices separate, the priests always coming from the family of Levi and Kings from the family of Judah. The third holy office (prophet) could come from any tribe and indeed there were priests who were also prophets (Ezekiel and Zechariah for example) and at least one king who was also a prophet (David). In Abraham’s time one man (Melchizedek) was both King and Priest but there was never another since the birth of the Nation. To prove the Lord was serious about this mandatory separation, when King Uzziah tried to officiate as a priest, he was immediately stricken with leprosy.

But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. Azariah the priest with eighty other courageous priests of the LORD followed him in. They confronted him and said, “It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the LORD God.” More »

One of the stories from the Book of Genesis which causes secular people to believe that the whole Bible is a mere fairy tale and a fiction, is the record in Genesis 3 regarding Adam and Eve and their encounter with the serpent.  It is commonly thought that there was a snake and an apple involved and that the snake spoke to Eve tempting her to eat the apple thus causing the downfall of man. What a joke. Who could believe such a tall story?

Of course this whole mess is as a result from some taking figurative language and making it literal or taking literal language and making it figurative. Figures of speech are used in the Bible to draw attention to, to emphasize or to intensify the reality of the literal truth which is being related. For even figures of speech and parables have a literal meaning attaching to them.  Thus we must dig for the meaning of the word ‘serpent’ to help elucidate the truth of what is being conveyed in Genesis 3. The expectation that Elijah will come back is based on a prophecy in the Book of Malachi. God said, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse” (Malachi 4:5-6).

The Jews put out a cup for Elijah at the Passover Meal because they are so sure that he will literally come back. After the meal, they say a prayer and ask a family member to open the door to see if Elijah the prophet has arrived.

Jesus was talking about His Second Coming when He told His disciples, “The Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom” (Matthew 16:27-28). Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James and John up on the Mount of Transfiguration where they saw Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:1-4). This is important because it shows that Elijah did show up in a vision (Matthew 17:9). More »

The disciples asked Jesus, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the age” (Matthew 24:3)?

After several comments, Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass away till all these things be fulfilled” (Matthew 24:34).

Controversy surrounds what He said. Some say “this generation” means the generation that was alive when Jesus was speaking. Most who believe this way spiritualize the Bible. They say Jesus came back about 2,000 years ago and that His return was a spiritual return. Others say “this generation” means the generation that sees “all these things” that Jesus had just mentioned in Matthew chapter 24. Most who believe this way take the Bible literally. And they say the return of Jesus is still future. It seems more likely that this second group is right. More »

The following is not intended as prophecy.  The only thing I can safely say I got from the Lord is the idea to write it.  But with things happening so quickly these days I think it’s good to get some perspective on Biblical events that may affect our lives in the coming 12 months.  It’ll be a good follow-up to our recap of 2009.
The Battle of Psalm 83 … Likely.

Something big seems to be brewing on both Israel’s northern and southern borders.  In the south, Egypt and the US are said to be teaming up with Israel.  Their plan is to drive Hamas from power in Gaza.  Egypt is already building an iron wall along its border to prevent Palestinian entry into the Sinai desert. There are 2 motivating factors at play.  One is that the US seems determined to broker a peace agreement this year.  To accomplish this, Hamas has to be taken out of the way so Mahmoud Abbas can be the undisputed leader of the Palestinians.  The second is the fact that al Qaida is building a strong presence in Gaza.  Egypt sees this as a national threat.  Some are already calling Gaza the new Yemen.

The Sun will go into an eclipse and the moon will turn to blood. This world is facing earth-shattering events. The wicked have prospered and increased. They have become bold and blasphemous and the cup of sin is near to being full. Justice in the heart of our Heavenly Father allows the wicked to run their course, but then the hammer must fall. There is a strong sense in my heart that the hour of these events is at hand. I do not know that they will begin during this year of 2010, but I do know they are certain, and I believe it will be soon. The state of the Western churches is so utterly apostate that no spiritual renewal will occur until judgment begins.

God’s perfect Word has declared, “. . . for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness” (Isaiah 26:9). The blindness of the Western World to holy things and the arrogance about any possible judgment by God is a dark crisis. It cannot last. God will either act or His reputation is on the line. Please, do not question the fact that the great Sovereign God is preparing for His visitation. The Word of God has already spoken. More »

Two passages teach that the Church will be removed at the sound of a trump. One passage calls it the “trump of God.” And the other passage calls it “the last trump.” The two passages are as follows:

First, Paul wrote to the Church at Thessalonica, “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (I Thess. 4:13-18).

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.” 2 Peter 2:1-3.

I was listening to a radio call in program the other day when a man came on and asked the radio host if he knew anything about a new offer by a college to teach anyone how to become a biblical prophet for a mere $4,000 dollars. In other words they will sell you the gift of prophecy. “And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.” Acts 8:18-20.

The gifts given us by God through His Holy Spirit can’t be bought as Simon found out. They are a gift and they are given to whomever He chooses.

Greetings in the most excellent name of Jesus Christ! I have been involved with a Bible study here at camp hosted by Pentecostal brothers. While I differ with them on tongues, interpretation of tongues, and prophesying, they do trust in Jesus Christ and so are genuine brothers in the Lord. Pray that the Lord guides us all into His truth and away from any error.

I didn’t hold my own verse-by-verse Romans study on Tuesday because the Pentecostal brothers were holding “revival” meetings Monday through Wednesday. I attended their Tuesday night devotional/topical meeting and had mixed feelings about it. God was glorified as Jesus was lifted high (always a good thing). However…
